Changes to Road tax (VED) from 1st April 2017

The amount of money we pay for road tax is changing. From 1st April 2017 a First Year Rates (FYRs) of VED will vary according to the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the vehicle. A flat Standard Rate (SR) of 140 will apply in all subsequent years, except for zero-emission cars for which the SR will be 0. What does this mean to you as our customer? This essentially means that if you wait until April 2017 to register your new car, you will pay at least 140 per year for a car that you now pay either nothing for road tax or as little as 20 per year. If you buy and register your new car before this date, then you will continue to enjoy the lower rates of road tax that are currently in place. Cars with a list price above 40,000 will attract a supplement of 310 on their SR for the first 5 years in which a SR is paid. All cars first registered before 1 April 2017 will remain in the current VED system, which will not change. This information can be confusing and we urge you to contact us as soon as possible so that we can explain what this will mean in real terms to you - our very important customers. Call Paul or Brian today on 028 816 58275 and we'll continue to drive down your cost of motoring. McGillions - where you do a great deal better.
