Downhill all the way for Ford's new Mobility Ambassador
BRENTWOOD, 05 August, 2009 – Paralympian Jane Sowerby has become the newest Ford Mobility Ambassador.
Jane, who is part of the British Disabled Ski Team, has chosen the Ford S-MAX to help her complete training for the Winter Paralympics in Vancouver next March.
As a Ford Mobility Ambassador Jane will demonstrate the versatility of Ford vehicles available on the Motability Scheme. Ford has received the Scheme's volume manufacturer award which recognises the 10,000 blue oval vehicles annually helping disabled drivers take to the road.
Paralysed in 2003, when a simple fall broke her back, Jane has not allowed her disability to halt her dreams. Although Jane only started competitive skiing in December 2007, she has already had 15 podium finishes and in 2008 was crowned British Disabled Female Champion in the British Nationals. The world-ranked skier chose the Ford S-MAX, which has been adapted with hand controls, for its stylish kinetic design and ability to carry training gear.
Jane said: "Training is hard without having to worry about my equipment. With the S-MAX I know it can handle all my gear, while I handle the slopes."
Mark Chapman, Ford's Motability manager, said: "Jane's determination and achievements are an inspiration to us all. She embodies the values we look for in an Ambassador and we are proud to play our part in her success."
Jane joins fellow Ambassadors, scuba diver Fraser Bathgate and wheelchair racer Jason Richards.
